Admitting Change is Necessary

The most demanding thing about making a change is admitting that it needs to be made. Sometimes that will be around admitting a fault in yourself. Occasionally, it would be because you’d have to give up something you love: Ice cream, a spouse, a vehicle that isn’t right for you, or a life story you have carried around as “who I am.” Discovering what that piece of you is so difficult to give up requires some honest and difficult introspection.
As always, I am going to recommend you start with writing down the issues you face, and you may find that there are several items you need to address. Look at them long and hard. Ask someone close to you whom you trust for feedback. Do not punish them for honesty. Then dig in hard. Take some time to pare it down to the real stuff. When you have decided what needs to change, sleep on it.
The next day, if it still feels right, push ahead with all your might! Gather all the resources you can. Look for books, videos, therapists, and clubs that can help you. If you are an introvert, battle your demons. If you are an extrovert, remember to listen. You must be in reception mode. It does no good to seek truth and action plans if you are not ready to listen.
So, a little confession here: Although I am a huge fan of change, introspection and all these things, I am also resistant to hard change. And my ADHD makes sticking to the change intended difficult. I am learning ways to do the things that are required with less struggle. It is working, but slowly. This is what drew me to the subject of change, and a desire to help others trying make changes, too.
So, let’s go!
