As a person with ADHD, I am acutely aware of the need for reminders to get anything done. When making changes in your life, it is critical.
Beyond the usual need to keep track of what needs to be done, when you are trying to make a change, it is all too easy to ignore an important task. Procrastination can stop the most determined person in their tracks.
So, I urge you to find ways to remind yourself often of what you need to do. There are several methods I use and recommend. Here is a list!
· Sticky notes – Number one! Because you write down the task in a simple basic way, stick in on your bathroom mirror, rearview mirror, the refrigerator door, the coffeemaker. Everywhere you know you will see it and preferably more than one. This works 99% of the time.
· Create a to-do list every day. Again, look at it several times a day and remind yourself what still needs to be done. Check off those you have managed to do as you do them. It will give you confidence and your own little kudos system, and you will keep at it to finish the list.
· Keep a journal. Write in it every day. Declare your intentions. Revisit the entries everyday and cross through what you have achieved.
· Use your iPhone or laptop to the best advantage. My phone has a reminder system in which I put most things I have to do daily and the occasional appointment. I use the notes app to a to-do list as well. I still struggle to keep up, but I try, and I am successful most of time.
· If you are up for it, find a project management system to download and learn. I may go back to using one eventually, because for work purposes I found it amazingly effective in the past, What is offered has changed a bit since Y2K! But you will find lots of information online. Check it out. That might be the best selection of all.
A big piece of advice. Use a few of these strategies. It will your 2025 a much more successful year.
